CGE Improves Lighting for American Concrete Institute

American Concrete Institute Welcomes RAMPKevin Werner and Doug Sordyl of ACI are welcomed to RAMP by Gary Zaplitny of CGE

American Concrete Institute (ACI) engaged Clean Green Energy (CGE) to make recommendations for energy savings at their Farmington Hills, Michigan location.  During the audit process, CGE found that the majority of the facility was fairly efficient but there were opportunities for savings by changing to induction lighting for the exterior light poles and by switching exterior wall packs to new T-5 fixtures.

CGE also discovered that the Shipping/Receiving and Warehouse areas were not efficient with their existing 250 watt metal halide fixtures.  CGE was able to change out these fixtures to new 2’x4’, 6-lamp T-8 fixtures, thus generating savings for the area and improving the quality of lighting in the shelving area; much to the delight of the workers in that area.

Because most of the office space already utilized efficient T-8 fixtures, CGE, in discussion with ACI officials decided to update fixtures for indirect lighting.  Replacing 32-watt, 4 and 3 lamp T-8 fixtures with 25-watt, 3 and 2 lamp T-8 fixtures not only generated measureable savings, but also greatly improved the aesthetic appearance of the office space.

In this modern day of near constant computer use, indirect lighting creates a much more comfortable environment for employees and also increases productivity.

Incorporating sensors in restrooms, closets and the break room also saves energy for the areas that are not in constant use while additional emergency lighting was added to the facility for safety concerns. Task lighting which had included old T-12 technology was retrofitted to complete the upgrade of the facility.

CGE Installed Indirect LightingOne of the unique offerings of CGE is the RAMP® maintenance program.  ACI signed up for a 5 year program that includes on-call service from CGE as well as group re-lamping at 36 months.  CGE is responsible for all ACI’s lighting needs.  All materials, equipment, labor and disposal are included in a low, fixed cost, monthly fee.  ACI appreciated the advantage of no longer having to stock replacement bulbs, dispose of old bulbs, or call a contractor each time a boom truck rental was required for light pole maintenance.  Knowing that the monthly cost is fixed allows ACI to control their lighting maintenance budget.

CGE provides an 800 number for cost-free communication and has also built a website dedicated specifically for ACI to allow ease of communicating outages.
